kota: Raj Tech Univ Vc Arrestedwhile Taking 5l As Bribe | Jaipur News

JAIPUR/KOTA: An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team arrested vice-chancellor of Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) Ram Avtar Gupta while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh on Thursday from Jaipur. He was trapped at a guest house of the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) while taking the bribe from the complainant.
He had demanded the bribe for allotting more seats in engineering and other facilities to the complainant who runs a private college. The ACB team recovered nearly Rs 24 lakh, which included Rs 20.9 lakh from the Jaipur guest house and over Rs 3.74 lakh from his residence in Kota. They also found the accused had 25 bank accounts in Kota with a deposit of nearly Rs 79 lakh.

ACB’s director general of police B L Soni said that Gupta has been demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a private college owner. The complainant approached the ACB following the bribery demands. “Our team verified the complaint and caught Gupta red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh on Thursday from a guest house of MNIT,” said Soni while speaking to TOI.
Additional SP Puspendra Singh, who led the operation, said that Gupta didn’t utter a word after his arrest.
By evening, the ACB had recovered Rs 20.9 lakh from the guest house. “Our Kota team recovered nearly Rs 3.74 lakh from his official residence. He will be questioned about the source of the money that we recovered,” Singh said.
Gold, silver and some property papers in the name of Gupta and his family were also found at his home, said Kota additional SP Chandra Sheel Thakur.
