lakhimpur kheri: Several states feel aftershocks; keep off UP villages, Tikait tells BJP netas | India News

The violence that erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday sparked off angry protests across several parts of the country on Monday with farmers taking to the streets in west UP, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Telangana, demanding action against Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra and his son Ashish Mishra.
Vehicular traffic at several places in west UP was hit by the protests as farmers blocked roads and highways, including the Mant toll plaza on Yamuna Expressway. Farmers sat on dharna across most districts of west UP, including Meerut, Agra, Shamli, Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar, blocking several highways. The Rampur-Rudrapur highway was blocked for several hours, leading to traffic jams on the stretch. Hundreds of farmers were seen leaving in private vehicles for Lakhimpur Kheri from Bulandshahr while in Shamli they lay down on roads, challenging authorities to mow them down. In Meerut, they locked the district magistrate’s office and sat in protest.
Even as Lakhimpur Kheri was out of bounds for leaders of political parties with administration blocking their entry, the motorcade of RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary managed to break through the police barricading at Garh Mukteshwar in Hapur. As politicians kept trying to troop in, Bharatiya Kisan Union chief Naresh Tikait warned BJP members against visiting villages in the region.
