JAIPUR: A doctor based in the city has claimed that he received an extortion call demanding Rs 50 lakh from a member of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
The doctor on Thursday filed an First Information Report at the Jawahar Circle police station in which he claimed that an individual purporting to be associated with the gang threatened him and demanded that he arrange Rs 50 lakh by Friday afternoon.
Subsequently, the doctor approached the Jawahar Circle police station and reported the incident to them. However, the city police stated that it was too early to confirm if the call was genuinely made by the gangster, as there have been numerous recent cases of individuals using the gangster’s name for personal disputes.
“The doctor did not record the voice call made to him. So, it is a bit difficult for us to determine if the caller was indeed a member of the criminal organisation,” stated a senior official.
The city police mentioned that they were taking the help of the technical cell to trace and verify the phone call made to the doctor. “Once the initial investigation is concluded, we will then be in a position to disclose the details of this case,” stated the official.
Officials stated that although they have enhanced security measures.
