Jaipur: Lawyers across state on Monday boycotted work to protest the brutal murder of a colleague in Jodhpur on last Saturday. They also demanded that their long-standing demand for Advocate Protection Act be fulfilled.
They took out a procession outside the district and sessions court in Jaipur causing traffic jams and snarls on the busy collectorate junction for hours causing much hardship of the commuters.
Bar council of Rajasthan co-chairman Bhuvanesh Sharma, High Court Bar Association Jaipur general secretary Balram Vashishtha, The Bar Association Jaipur general secretary Sandeep Luhadia and Pankaj Pachlangia among others urged the state government to bring the Advocate Protection Act at the earliest. The protest will continue today as well.
Lawyer Jugraj Chauhan was waylaid and murdered in Jodhpur on last Saturday. The police arrested two accused Anil and Mukesh based on CCTV footage. According to the police the attackers blocked the lawyer’s way while he was on his way home. A scuffle broke out during which one of the attackers took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. As he fell on the road, one of the attackers struck him on the head with a stone, killing him on the spot. tnn
