Leave: 50k Nurses In Govt-run Hospitals Apply For Mass Leave On Aug 25 | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: As agitating nurses and the state government have not engaged in talks, hospitals are facing challenges due to the ongoing boycott of work by nurses. The hospitals are worried about August 25 mass leave of the nursing staff that could adversely affect the healthcare facilities.
“Around 50,000 nursing staff in the state will be on mass leave for a day. We have started signing mass leaves and submitting to the hospital administrations. Nurses in each hospital are applying for mass leaves,” said Narendra Shekhawat, a leader of protesting nurses.
The hospitals which are receiving the mass leave applications are seeking directions from the medical education department or health department on how to make alternate arrangements for August 25 mass leave of nursing staff.
The nurses have decided not to affect the ICUs and emergency services in the hospital. “We will work in ICUs and emergency services, but the rest of the services will be closed for one day from 8am on August 25 to 8am on August 26. We have been protesting for over three months and now the patients’ inconvenience will be the responsibility of the government,” he said.
The nurses have 11 demands including increase in their salaries, increase in number of postings, time-bound promotions, and change of colour in their uniforms. The uniform of nurses is white, but they want the colour of the dress to be changed similar to AIIMS Delhi.
They are demanding that they get multiple promotions like in other cadres of government services. They pointed out that more than 99% of the nursing staff retire with just one promotion, as they have only two posts, nursing officer and senior nursing officer and after that they have nursing superintendent, the post of which are just around 250 in the state.
