Local company ShyamVNL develops solution to block illegal mobile phone usage in prisons
NEW DELHI: ShyamVNL, a homegrown Indian company specialising in radio frequency cyber intelligence and security solutions, has developed a technology designed to combat the menace of illegal mobile phones usage within prisons.
ShyamVNL unveiled the solution at Milipol India, a defence and security exhibition being held in the national capital.
“As mobile phone usage has experienced a substantial surge over the past few decades, so has the illicit use of devices within prisons, creating a significant threat to security and border.Criminals and gangsters are increasingly using mobile phones to orchestrate illegal activities within the confines of correctional facilities. Notably, several recent high-profile criminal operations have been traced back to mobile network coverage inside prisons and the use of illegal mobile devices, the company said while speaking about the challenges to prison officials.
“Even in facilities with stringent security measures, mobile devices continue to find their way into the hands of inmates. Beyond prisons, ensuring secure communication at borders, entry/exit points, and crowd management has become a critical challenge in today’s environment,” the company said.
ShyamVNL’s locally-developed technology ensures complete blockage of mobile phone usage within a coverage area. Also, it leads to mobile identity detection, and location tracking with an accuracy of one meter.
The company said that the technology puts control in the hands of the prison authorities, eliminating any dependence on mobile operators. “This multi-pronged approach promises a comprehensive and effective means of curbing the illicit use of mobile phones in prisons, bolstering security at critical sites, and maintaining order in crowded areas,” Rajiv Mehrotra, founder of ShyamVNL, said.
