Manipur: State Govt Safely Brings Back 51 Rajasthanis From Manipur | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Two flights carrying 51 persons from the state – who were stranded in the violence-hit Manipur – arrived at the Jaipur International Airport on Monday evening. While the first flight arrived around 5pm with 26 passengers from Manipur, the second flight reached Jaipur at 8.30pm with 25 passengers.
“Altogether 92 people from the state boarded two flights from Imphal to Kolkata on Monday morning. Out of these 92 passengers, 51 reached Jaipur on Monday evening. Rest of them are expected to reach Jaipur on Tuesday. The Rajasthan government has paid the entire flight fare for the passengers,” said Shubhra Singh, chief resident commissioner of Rajasthan.
It is estimated that around 120-125 people from the state, who are mostly students – are stranded in Manipur. Government is trying to evacuate rest of the people from there. For the last few days, Manipur has been witnessing violence that has claimed more than 50 lives. Unofficial sources have placed death toll at over 100 and the number of injured around 200.
Meanwhile, the Bikaner House Resident Commissioner’s Office, New Delhi in coordination with the Rajasthan Foundation has launched helpline numbers for those in need of any assistance or information.
“The resident commissioner’s office is collaborating with the ministry of home affairs and local authorities to offer support and make necessary arrangements for the stranded Rajasthanis,” a press release issued by the government, on Sunday, stated.
The state government has also requested the stranded Rajasthanis to remain confined in safe houses and not to panic as “the current situation on the ground in Manipur is not conducive.”
