Mayor: Cong Councillors To Urge Gehlot For Gurjar’s Arrest, But She Seeks A Seat | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Congress councillors at JMC-Heritage have upped their ante against mayor Munesh Gurjar, with 37 of them scheduled to meet chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday to demand that Gurjar be arrested.
This move came on a day when Gurjar filed a nomination with the Jaipur Congress unit seeking a ticket to contest from Civil Lines assembly constituency.
The councillors also said that they will meet state Congress in-charge S S Randhawa and PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasara.
Gurjar took back charge of the mayor’s office after the high court stayed her suspension order issued by the local self-government department over corruption charges. Gurjar has been in a tussle with party councillors who are backed by Civil Lines MLA Pratap Singh Khachariyawas.
On Saturday, the 37 councillors together submitted a memorandum Khachariyawas as well as to MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi, demanding the arrest of Gurjar. On Sunday, the councillors reached the chief minister’s residence to meet him, but as the CM was not available, they were given appointment to meet him on Tuesday.
“Till Gurjar is arrested, all 37 councillors will publicly boycott her. During this there will be no conversation with the mayor. The Congress government suspended her suspecting her involvement in a bribery case. She is defaming the party by such actions and we demand that her assets must be checked to assess the level of corruption,” said one of the 37 councillors. The mayor could not be reached for her comments as her contact number was switched off.
