Jaipur: To help in smoother decisions and policy implementations for urban public transportation, chief minister Ashok Gehlot has announced to merge all city transport corporations in the state – under the Local Self Help Group – into Rajasthan City Transport Corporation.
“Today, public transport system with buses and mini-buses is very important to reduce the number of small vehicles and congestions on roads. With a view to improve the urban transport network, we want to merge all city transport corporations – Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer-Pushkar, Udaipur and Kota – into Rajasthan City Transport Corporation,” Gehlot announced in his budget speech.
Officials close to the development claimed, by merger, the chief minister meant to say formation of a holding company with 50% equity in all the five city transport corporations in the state.
All the five city transport corporations would remain and function autonomous. However, all CMDs would be the board members of this holding company with other important officio members like the chief secretary, the urban development secretary and the transport secretary.
“This holding company would be a platform to discuss and implement policies regarding procurement and other important aspects of these five city corporations,” said an official.
