Jaipur: JMC Greater (JMC-G) mayor Somya Gurjar on Tuesday said that officials have been instructed to make the city open waste depot free as part of the two-week cleanliness campaign being conducted in the city. The civic body started a two-week cleanliness campaign in the city from Monday.
The mayor said that 150 supervisors have been appointed for every ward to monitor the progress.
On Tuesday, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the mayor along with commissioner and other officials conducted a prayer ceremony at the JMC Greater headquarters and said that all councillors and officials are working for the betterment of the city and strict monitoring will be done to check the progress.
“All officials have been instructed to monitor cleanliness situation in their areas. A three-day fair is being organised in the city outside Moti Dungri temple, where thousands of people will be visiting. To manage the excess waste that will be generated, special teams have been deployed so that it is not left on the roads. Our aim is to make the city open depot free by the end of the two-week cleanliness campaign,” said Gurjar.
On Tuesday afternoon, Malviya Nagar zone deputy commissioner Santlal Makkar inspected the arrangements with the entire team from Moti Dungri Road to Dharam Singh Circle on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Gurjar further said that councillors have an important role to play in the cleanliness campaign along with residents, as public awareness is most important in such situations.
“Along with maintaining cleanliness, public awareness is also our focus and councillors have been instructed to work on this in their respective wards. The municipal corporation will start focusing on segregation of waste and before that public awareness is important,” added the mayor.
Last November, mayor Gurjar in an executive committee had said that work on a proposal to make the city open depot free will start from the new year, but proper implementation is still pending.
