Woman Arrested For Killing Sambar At R’bore, Selling Meat | Jaipur News
Jaipur: A forest department team arrested a woman for allegedly killing a sambar in Khandar Range of Ranthambore National Park (RNP) and selling its meat.
Police produced the accused before a local court on Saturday morning and took her on a three-day remand for interrogation.
The accused, identified as Chandrakalan alias Kali, the wife of Ramswaroop Mogya, a resident of Badwas Khanda, allegedly killed the sambar late on Friday night.
After the forest department team raided the village, Ram Swaroop and his two companions fled, said an official, adding that officials are now interrogating the arrested accused.
“The family of the accused was working to protect crops on a farm situated on the periphery of the park. The accused killed the sambar in the forest and brought it to the farm. There it was chopped to be sold as meat. Acting on a tip-off, forester Amar Singh and some forest workers reached the spot and nabbed the woman,” said an official.
The forest department team seized two blood-soaked axes, a knife, one kilogram of gunpowder, a piece of sulfur, fishing hooks, and two sambar horns, said officials.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly said her team had hunted the sambar 10-15 days ago by laying gunpowder on one side of the forest area and that they sold its meat.
“The meat is sold to local people, and it gives the poachers a good profit. People come to their farm only to buy meat. After weighing the meat with scales on the farm, they pack it in polythene bags and sell it,” said an official.
Forest department officials are quizzing the accused to learn about the gang leader, he added.
