MNIT: Portable AI Machine for Early Detection of Silicosis – MNIT | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Researchers at Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur have developed an artificial intelligence-based portable equipment that can be used to detect silicosis early.
“We have developed a portable instrument, powered by AI technology, that will help in easy detection of silicosis. It is a lung disease prevalent in the mining regions in Rajasthan.The instrument identifies silicosis from chest X-ray and also highlights the affected lung areas,” said Kuldeep Singh, assistant professor at department of electronics and communication engineering.
Singh further said that the device can be seamlessly interfaced with a digital X-ray machine. It also offers the flexibility to use a pen drive or camera, providing versatility in capturing chest X-ray images.
“This adaptability enhances the accessibility and ease of implementation, particularly in regions where advanced medical equipment may be limited,” Singh added.
This project was sponsored by the state government’s Department of Specially-abled Persons. Along with Singh, Prof Rajesh Kumar from department of electrical engineering and Satyendra Singh Chouhan from department of computer Science and Faisel Mushtaq, a researcher at MNIT were involved.
The team is now trying to collaborate with medical institutions in the state for setting up camps near mining sites to run tests.

Police department implements foot patrolling to curb crimes
Hubballi city police have launched Foot Patrolling, a unique fraud prevention initiative. Police personnel visit crowded places to educate people on different modus operandi of criminals and how to stay safe. The initiative aims to create awareness about crimes, enable immediate police help, and instill confidence in the public. Officers visit bus stands, railway stations, auto stands, markets, and residential areas to interact with people and educate them about various crimes. They also address traffic rules, harassment, drug abuse, and unauthorized medicine sales.

MP: Lokayukta Police nabs Public Works Department executive engineer
The special police establishment of Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta apprehended an executive engineer for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. The accused, PK Gupta, had demanded a kickback of Rs 75,000 from a contractor in exchange for clearing a pending bill of Rs 3 lakh for electrical fittings at the Bhind Collector’s residence. Gupta had already received Rs 55,000 and arrived at the contractor’s office to collect an additional Rs 20,000. However, the Lokayukta Police intervened and apprehended him when he accepted Rs 15,000.
