Moti Doongri: Security Goes For A Toss As Goons Strike At Will In City | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The city’s security is facing scrutiny after goons targeted a shop in Moti Doongri for extortion, followed by armed robbers storming a jewellery store in Johari Bazaar within a span of a few hours on Thursday evening. The two incidents are part of a string of similar acts of brazen hooliganism unleashing chaos.
Around 7pm on Thursday, a shop in Anandpuri, Moti Doongri, was vandalised by as many as five men believed to be associated with a notorious gangster. The shop owner, terrified after one of his workers was injured, could barely hold back tears.
“I recently sold my house. Immediately after the sale, the gang has been demanding money. They want extortion of Rs 10 lakh and always threaten me that they will target my young son. They were also brandishing a pistol,” he said.
At 9pm on Thursday, an armed robber barged into a jewellery shop in Johari Bazaar. He fired a shot before threatening the owner to pack cash and gold in a bag. The owner’s son confronted the assailant head-on, overpowering him and handing him over to the police.
These incidents are part of a growing list of incidents wherein criminals strike at will and leave a trail of panic and fear. On Monday, five men in an SUV attacked and harassed a girl and her cousin before trying to drag them out of their car.
The girl claimed instead of investigating case, cops asked her angry questions like why she was out so late in the first place. Shockingly, not a single patrolling vehicle came to their aid in Mansarovar, despite their ordeal lasting several minutes.
Unease among residents has also grown as a result of the police’s inability to investigate high-profile murder cases, such as the cruel murder of an elderly woman in SEZ and the puzzling death of a young woman in the Sanganer (Sadar) last week.
These unsolved crimes have emerged against a backdrop of increasing thefts and brazen acts of hooliganism, causing alarm.
