Nam Joo Hyuk on his FIRST action drama ‘Vigilante’: I focused on presenting a darker and more solemn figure
Nam Joo Hyuk has unleashed his action avatar in Vigilante and the first trailer of the series left an impressive mark on the audience. This series is adapted from a gripping webtoon by the same name and revolves around Kim Ji Yong, a model police university student by day and a relentless vigilante by night. Fueled by the tragic loss of his mother to neighborhood thugs, Kim Ji Yong takes law in his own hands, targeting criminals who slip through the legal cracks.
He has effortlessly transformed into the formidable character of Kim Ji Yong, speaking about the same, Man Joo Hyuk was quoted by Soompi, “‘Vigilante’ was a webtoon I really liked, and I decided to star in the drama because I had a strong desire to portray the character Kim Ji Yong.”
From intense weight training to mastering and beyond, he spared no effort to ensure the action-packed drama came to life vividly.
A far cry from his usual roles, Nam Joo Hyuk dives headfirst into the action genre with Vigilante and prepped hard to get the action right. He trained in boxing, judo and martial arts for his maiden brush with the genre. “Since it’s my first action project, I had many discussions with the martial arts team about the details throughout filming. I believed that my character should exhibit a distinct vibe when in a police uniform compared to his Vigilante persona. When portraying the character in his Vigilante role, I focused on presenting a somewhat darker and more solemn figure. Instead of overtly displaying emotions, I tried to act by internalizing those emotions,” shared the Start-Up star.
Speaking about casting Nam Joo Hyun in this character, director Choi Jeong Yeol shared, “For the main character Kim Ji Yong, I had hoped to find an actor who could depict the fine line between good and evil, with a spark in his eyes but also sadness in his gaze. Nam Joo Hyuk portrayed those aspects very well, and there were many moments when I was in awe [while watching his performance].”
Mark your calendars for November 8 as the adrenaline-pumping ‘Vigilante’ will debut on air. Two thrilling episodes will be dropped every Wednesday, totaling eight episodes. Get ready for an action-packed saga that blurs the lines between justice and vengeance.
