Neglected Tropical Diseases: Mahatma Gandhi Univ Set To Promote Higher Education Of Divyangs | Jaipur News
A provision of Rs 25 crore has been made in the proposed Act for building the university, which will be established on a similar pattern as the Baba Amte Divyang Vishwavidyalaya in Jamdoli, Jaipur.
According to the bill, it will be a multi-disciplinary university, which will provide better opportunities for higher studies and research to Divyangs in the state.
“The objectives of the university include facilitating and promoting studies, research and extension work in the emerging areas comprising rehabilitation courses with focus on benchmark disabilities, rehabilitation engineering/technology, community based rehabilitations, rehabilitation psychology, speech therapy, rehabilitation therapy, vocational counselling and rehabilitation, Yoga and Panchakarma therapy, sociology/social work/administration etc. through conventional teaching and distance education system,” the bill stated.
Social justice and empowerment minister Tikaram Jully, who moved the bill in the assembly, informed that in the first phase courses such as D.Ed. Intellectual Disability, B.Ed. Intellectual Disability, D.Ed. Hearing Impaired Disability, B.Ed. Hearing Impaired Disability and Diploma in Sign Language Interpreter will be offered.
“In the second phase, courses like BA Hindi, English, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work and Psychology will be taught. Other courses such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Vocational Therapy, diploma in Yoga, diploma in Ayurveda Nursing, Diploma in Panchakarma Therapy will also be conducted and a Panchkarma centre will be set up,” he said. “In the third phase, it is proposed to conduct courses related to law, engineering, and science and technology,” the minister informed.
