Nomination: Bal Bharti Maharaj Flown To Jaisalmer In Chartered Plane To Withdraw Nomination | Jaipur News
Jaisalmer: Bal Bharti Maharaj, head of the famous Gajrupsagar Math, dramatically reached Jaisalmer from Jaipur by a chartered plane on Thursday and withdrew his nomination papers five minutes before the window closed for doing so.
Upset with the BJP for not making him the party candidate for Jaisalmer assembly seat, Maharaj had filed his nomination as an independent and then gone incommunicado.Reports said that he was in Mumbai for the last three days, and after persuasion from senior BJP leaders, was to come from Mumbai to Jaisalmer by flight. But due to fog, the Mumbai to Jaisalmer flight was cancelled.
The urgency of the situation made BJP workers in Jaisalmer scramble to hire a chartered flight from Mumbai. When that could not be arranged, Maharaj was flown to Jaipur in a normal flight and there a chartered plane was arranged for him to reach Jaisalmer.
BJP’s district president Chandraprakash Sharda and many other leaders were present at the airport to receive him.
The BJP’s Jaisalmer unit had also issued a press release announcing a special event on Friday at the party office to honour Maharaj. Along with him, Sunita Bhati, who switched to BJP from Congress, would also be honoured there, the release said.
Bal Bharti Ji Maharaj, as he is popularly known, belongs to the OBC category. The BJP high command reportedly decided to deny him the ticket and instead give it to Chhotu Singh.
When Bharti filed nomination as an independent and left Jaisalmer, the BJP started searching for him to persuade him to withdraw his nomination.
Bharti told the media in Jaisalmer that he had withdrawn his nomination in support of the BJP. He said his supporters arranged a chartered flight for him to reach Jaisalmer to withdraw his nomination in time.
