Northern Lapwing Sighted For 1st Time In Desert National Park | Jaipur News
JAISALMER: A large number of migratory birds have arrived in Jaisalmer these days. These birds can be easily spotted in pasture lands and wetlands in Jaisalmer district. Bird lovers are also flocking to Jaisalmer to study them.
For the first time, Northern Lapwing has been sighted in Ramgarh and Desert National Park in Jaisalmer. The national bird of Ireland Republic has made the bird lovers and environmentalists happy. It was declared national bird of the Republic of Ireland in 1990.
IUCN WHSG, WCPA and SAVE vulture community member Dau Lal Bohra said it is the first time that Northern Lapwing was spotted in Desert National Park. Water Rail and Steppe Gull were also recorded for the first time in Jaisalmer. Bird expert Parth Jagani said that according to Canada’s Cornwell University ebird app for the census of international bird species, Jaisalmer has been identified as the place of maximum number of bird species, which in coming days can become an international record.
Gadisar Lake has 265 migratory birds, 227 in DNP Sudasari, 226 in other areas of DNP, 200 in Netsi Lake in Ramgarh, 138 in Badabagh pond, 141 in Akal Fossils Park and 112 in Dandewala Thar Desert.
He said that Steppe Gull was spotted for the first time in Jaisalmer. He said that, “Water Rail was also seen today in Gajroop Sagar. It is a small bird of rail family and lives in wetlands which are rich in food and healthy water. It was also reported for the first time in Jaisalmer”.
