No slip road, JDA plans to close Tonk Phatak railway crossing | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: With a section of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials not keen on acquiring an abandoned piece of land below the Tonk Puliya, engineers of the civic body are vowing to stop vehicular movements through the Tonk Phatak.
Engineers claimed until and unless a slip road was constructed on the Barkat Nagar side of the Tonk Phatak the signal-free traffic project at the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha would not be successful. So, the only option now left is to stop traffic through the railway crossing in Barkat Nagar. “This is a dream project of the chief minister, but still a section of officials are not keen on acquiring the abandoned land even after much pursuit. The land belongs to the Indian Railways. Maybe because the election is round the corner, these officials are not keen on taking actions against the union government,” said an official who did not want to be quoted.
Officials said post the signal-free project inauguration, vehicles in the underpass of Tonk Puliya would increase rapidly. It would multiply in numbers once the North Western Railway modernised the Gandhinagar Railway Station. Traffic on the Barkat Nagar side of the Tonk Puliya would become a nightmare.
JDA officials see no harm in stopping traffic through the Tonk Phatak after they had increased the breadth of the Kishan Marg on the Durgapura side of the Puliya.
“To stop vehicular movement at the Tonk Phatak, the Tonk Puliya had been constructed as a Rail Overbridge. However, it was decided to keep the Tonk Phatak open for vehicular movement because the Kishan Marg located on the Durgapura side of the puliya was narrow, but now we have widened the Kishan Marg,” said another official.
