A resident of Pratap Nagar under the Bhatta Basti police station area, she was travelling early morning from her house to visit a temple as part of her daily routine. A person saw that she was wearing chains, anklets and earrings and waylaid her near Ambabari, police said.
The man then threw the women into the nullah. “She rolled down about 15 feet and got stuck on a slope. The accused also clambered down and robbed her jewellery,” said an official. The robbery has sparked fresh fears about street crime in the city. “We suspect that some drug addict may have been behind the incident. We are speaking to people who deal in purchasing old jewellery to find details about the accused,” the official added.
Three different teams from Vidhyadhar Nagar police station fanned out in over a dozen locations in nearby areas of the nullah.
