Over 3k Panchayat Samiti Members Gather To Press For Their Demands | Jaipur News
Jaipur: More than 3,000 protestors under the Rajasthan panchayat samiti members’ federation staged a demonstration at Bais Godam on Thursday to press for their list of 9 demands. These include introduction of payment of mandays to panchayat samiti and zila parishad members, giving them administrative and financial powers, and release of funds for development of their constituencies.
An 8-member delegation of the federation met joint secretary to the chief minister Ajay Aswal, advisor to CM Rajkumar Sharma, MLAs Balwan Poonia and Gopal Lal Meena at the state assembly. There are 6,236 panchayat samiti members and 1,014 zila parishad members in Rajasthan.
“They assured us of resolving our issues soon by amending the law. They said they’ll raise our issues with CM Ashok Gehlot as well. On Thursday, 18 MLAs had raised questions in the Assembly over the demands of the panchayat samiti and zila parishad members. Earlier, 11 MLAs had raised questions over this. More than 70 MLAs have written to the state government supporting our demands,” Rajendra Singh Surpura, president, Rajasthan panchayat samiti members’ federation, said.
