Paris metro ticket prices to nearly double during 2024 Olympics | More sports News

NEW DELHI: To accommodate the increased demand and operational costs during the 2024 Paris Olympics, the city’s regional transport authority has announced a significant price increase for metro tickets.
The move aims to offset the expenses associated with providing transportation services for the millions of additional visitors expected during the Games.
According to the announcement, single metro tickets will see a nearly doubling in price, increasing from 2.10 euros to 4 euros.Similarly, 10-ticket blocks will be sold for 32 euros, up from the current 16.90 euros. The adjustments are set to be effective from July 20 to September 8, covering the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Valerie Pecresse, the head of the Paris region’s transport authority, assured that the substantial price hikes would not impact annual and monthly travel passes for residents. Pecresse emphasised that residents should not bear the additional costs brought on by the Olympic Games, estimated at 200 million euros.
To cater to the influx of tourists, a special flat-rate pass will be available for 16 euros per day or 70 euros per week during the Games. This pass will cover travel within Paris and its region, including transportation to Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
Pecresse advised Paris residents to stock up on metro tickets before July to avoid the surcharge. With an anticipated 10 million visitors during the Olympics, the transport authority aims to provide more frequent and efficient transport services to meet the heightened demand.
