Parking Space For 2,500 Cars To Be Ready Around Walled City By June | Jaipur News

Jaipur: As part of making Jaipur city ‘smart’, work is underway to make parking spaces for 2500 cars around the Walled City. The spaces are likely to be ready by June, said officials.
Four different parking spaces are being constructed that will be connected through a mobile application. This will help the residents to check parking availability and book in advance before leaving their houses. Parking spaces are being constructed at Chaugan Stadium, Chandpole Gate near Anaj Mandi, and Ramniwas Bagh, among other areas.
“We are working to build parking spaces for around 2500 cars that will help in reducing traffic in the Walled City. This will be ready by June, most of the construction work has already been done, only the technical part is being worked out at present. A mobile application will be made through which residents will be able to book parking spaces in advance. This will keep getting updated on a real-time basis which will help residents in planning their visits,” said an official from Jaipur Smart City Limited, who is privy to the details.
At Ramniwas Bagh parking space for around 1500 cars is being made, 400 at Chaugan Stadium, 300 near Anaj Mandi and 290 near Jaipuria Hospital, said officials.
Meanwhile, traders’ bodies from the Walled City said that the initiative, though smart, is likely to fail, unless strict action is taken to imbibe behavioural change in people to park vehicles at allotted spaces only.
“Traffic problems in the Walled City are mainly due to unorganised e-rickshaws and with four-wheelers it gets accelerated. Why should shopkeepers have to keep vehicles at different places, then take e-rickshaws and come to work, we will protest this move. We also must understand that many of the customers coming to the Walled City are from rich backgrounds, who do not travel in e-rickshaws, they prefer their cars,” said Vivek Bharadwaj, general secretary of Chaura Rasta Vyapar Mandal.
Kailash Mittal, general secretary of Johri Bazaar Traders’ Association said that parking spaces are already available in the Walled City but people do not use them because no rules are followed.
“There are existing parking spaces in the Walled City, which are not used. As per rules, vehicles can be parked for Rs 30 for up to two hours in the Walled City and after that the vehicles can be taken away by the traffic police, but all residents and shopkeepers have planned with the authorities and park their vehicles for the whole day. If the enforcement is strong, then Walled City’s traffic problems can be solved. If someone is purchasing jewellery of high value from Johri Bazaar, who will expect them to take an e-rickshaw and go to the parking lot,” said Mittal.
