Jaipur: In five months from April to August, the north western railway (NWR) spent about 48% of its annual budget for this year on improving infrastructure and passenger facilities, officials said on Thursday.
Shashi Kiran, chief public relations officer of NWR, said, “Under the leadership of Vijay Sharma, general manager NWR, the work of strengthening infrastructure and better passenger facilities is being completed on a large scale and within the target timeframe. Out of the total budget of Rs 8,637 crore allocated in the year 2023-24 to NWR, Rs 4,103 crore has been spent till the month of August.”
Officials said that the amount was spent on construction of new railway lines, doubling of tracks, renewal of track, machinery and plant, and for staff welfare. “The general manager has directed the higher officials to accelerate efforts for passenger convenience and development work,” Kiran said.

Domestic air passenger traffic rises about 23% to 1.24 crore in August: Icra
India’s domestic air passenger traffic in August increased by 23% compared to the previous year, reaching 1.24 crore. It was also 6% higher than the pre-Covid level in August 2019. The capacity deployment grew by 10% compared to August 2022, but was 1% lower than the pre-Covid levels. The credit rating agency Icra predicts a stable outlook for the domestic aviation industry due to the fast-paced recovery in passenger traffic and improved pricing power.
