Payal Rohtagi Appears At Bundi Court In 2019 Defamation Case | Jaipur News

KOTA: Actress Payal Rohatgi of Bigg Boss fame appeared at the additional chief judicial magistrate’s (ACJM) court in Bundi on Monday in connection with a four-year-old case pertaining to allegedly objectionable comments she had made on the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Rohtagi, who had been avoiding court appearance since she was granted bail after spending a day in jail in the case in December 2019, was accompanied with her husband, Sangram Singh. The couple reached Bundi on Monday morning. Rohatgi presented herself before the court without a legal counsellor, claiming she did not have any lawyer in Bundi.
The former Big Boss contestant had skipped the last hearing in the case on July 11 last year, citing her wedding, and had remained absent in court on the next hearing on March 22 last. The judge, while hearing Rohatgi’s application for exemption from the hearings, had made strict remarks and directed her to appear in the court on the next hearing on April 24.
Rohatgi said she had obtained a no-objection certificate (NOC) from her previous lawyer in the case and cited it as the reason she failed to appear in court on the last two hearings. She also claimed that a hearing in the same case in Rajasthan High Court was scheduled the same say on Monday.
The actress had uploaded a video on social media on September 21, 2019, making certain remarks on the Nehru-Gandhi family. Bundi-based Congress leader Charmesh Sharma had dubbed her remarks as “objectionable and defamatory” and lodged a case against her at Bundi Sadar police station on October 10, 2019.
A team of Bundi police had arrested Rohatgi from Gujarat on December 15, 2019, and produced her in a Bundi court on December 16, 2019. The court remanded her to judicial custody, prompting her to file a bail application at the court of the district judge (DJ) the same day. She was granted bail the next day, December 17, 2019, after spending a night at Bundi Central Jail.
