PM’s ‘vocal for local’ pitch big boost for desi biz: Traders | India News

NEW DELHI: Stepping up his “vocal for local” call, PM Narendra Modi Friday urged people to purchase ‘Made in India’ products, while complimenting the “relentless spirit of entrepreneurs” to further India’s progress.
He asked people to make Diwali about the hard work of 140 crore Indians. “It is due to the creativity and relentless spirit of entrepreneurs that we can be #VocalForLocal and further India’s progress.May this festival herald an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” Modi said, while responding to a post on X by Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
Just days before ‘Dhanteras‘, Modi had urged people to buy locally made products and then post a selfie with the product or its maker on the NaMo App. The Vocal for Local call ahead of the festival season is also seen as a move to give a big boost to small and medium enterprises in the country as most of the products people buy are made by the local enterprises or artisans. In recent years, products from China have taken a major share of such items sold here.
On Friday, the Confederation of All India Traders, which represents a powerful traders’ lobby, said it expected trade of around Rs 50,000 crore on ‘Dhanteras’. It said there is a strong ‘vocal for local’ flavour in the market and Chinese products are losing business as more Indians are opting for Indian goods.
