Police Identify 21 More People Involved In Imported Coal Theft | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Four days after busting a racket involved in stealing imported coal from trucks passing through Rajasthan and arresting 21 people, the Crime Branch of the state police has identified more than 20 people who had been parts of this nexus.
Police teams are conducting raids in various districts under the monitoring of an SIT formed by DGP Umesh Mishra, said officials. The arrests made so far in this case are a “tip of the iceberg,” they said.
A team of Crime Branch had on April 20 busted a racket involved in theft of imported coal of nearly Rs 1,000 crore from trucks through raids conducted at 13 places in seven districts of the state. Police detained 22 people, mainly truck drivers and cleaners, in this connection and registered 11 FIRs in various districts.
“Ongoing investigations and interrogation of the accused have led to the identification of more people who played roles in the thefts at different places, including the depots where the trucks used to be unloaded. It is a big racket, and our teams are working,” said Crime Branch DIG Rahul Prakash to TOI on Monday. He is a part of the SIT formed by the DGP.
Teams of Crime Branch and district police personnel have gone to Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh to make more arrests, he said, adding that the accused identified are based in Jalore and Jhunjhunu and some other parts of Rajasthan, and in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
The gang originated from Gujarat, where the imported coal arrives in the ports and is loaded unto the trucks, said senior police officers. “Various teams are working on the case, and we will soon nail down the actual culprits,” said an officer.
“It appears that it is a very organised gang operated from Gujarat, and the rest of the states are just transit depots,” he added.
Crime Branch seized 1,850 tons of coal apart from several trailers, loaders, tractors and other vehicles used in the transportation, said officials.
