Pollution Board Asks Stone Cutting Units To Make Tiles From Slurry | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Slurry dumped by stone cutting and grinding units in clusters has become a cause of concern as it is detrimental to environment.
Taking note of it, Rajasthan state pollution control board (RSPCB) is encouraging such units to manufacture tiles and paver blocks from slurry. For the purpose, the RSPCB has made changes in the existing guidelines for setting up mineral grinding units.
Disposal of waste and slurry generated during dressing, sawing and edge cutting of marble and dolomite stones has been an issue in the state for years. Recently, RSPCB encouraged such units to dump waste in the identified dumping yard. But, it has created huge dumps of such waste in areas especially where such industries are located in clusters.
RSPCB issued an order on Tuesday giving relaxation to the marble and dolomite processing units in the existing guidelines and has given relief in the minimum distance criteria for establishment of mineral grinding units from the nearest habitat.
As per existing guidelines for setting up mineral grinding units, minimum distance criteria from nearby residential area is 500 metres.
The marble and dolomite processing units will use waste from their own unit to grind for further reuse for gainful utilization.
This relaxation will only be applicable to those marble and dolomite units which grind and reuse waste materials generated from their own processing units.
“The Board is committed to promoting such win-win kind of situations which have a positive environmental implication. For entrepreneurs, there is synergy involved and from Board’s perspective, it is an affirmative step in eco-friendly direction,” said Naveen Mahajan, chairperson, RSPCB told TOI.
