Pollution: Dharna Against Oil Co Polluting Groundwater Enters Ninth Day | Jaipur News

The dharna caused the pollution control board to take samples from agricultural tubewells three days ago, and Baytu MLA Harish Choudhary on Saturday evening leading a farmers’ delegation to the collectorate to meet Cairn officers in the presence of district collector Arun Purohit.
In the metting, villagers said that the company dumps chemical waste into deep pits with use of pressure pumps, due to which the chemicals seep into groundwater. The villagers told the district collector that groundwater in a radius of 5km of the company’s oil wells had been polluted and was damaging crops.
Dr Raman Choudhary, a local farmer, said that contaminated water of a blackish colour and foul smell keeps coming out of tubewells and this problem began 4-5 years ago. He said that all villagers are worried that even drinking water has become contaminated and they want government teams to inspect the water.
Khanji Ka Tala sarpanch Tilokaram said that the Baytu tehsildar recently took water samples to get them checked at the government laboratory. Cairn officers have also taken water samples for inspection, he said.
