Press Conference: Cec Disapproves Of ‘unfounded’ Caste-related Data | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Chief election commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, during a press conference in Jaipur on Sunday, said “projection of caste-related numbers, data and statements in media, which are not based on empirical evidence, disturbs the level-playing field during elections and hence directions have been issued to all the stakeholders to avoid making such projections, creating narratives or issuing statements.” The issue was raised by political parties during a meeting of the commission with them, and they demanded action against those committing it.
Kumar also informed that home voting for voters above 80 years of age and Divyangs with 40% disability would be introduced for the first time in the forthcoming general assembly elections in Rajasthan. He also said remote voting was a work in progress and the political parties have asked the commission to work further on the issue. “It’s an idea which will be carried forward with times to come with technological and administrative safeguards and processes being followed,” he said.
Representatives of AAP, BSP, BJP, CPI(M), Congress, RLP met the EC. They demanded the EC should ensure transparency in polls, action against false affidavits submitted by candidates, action against projection of caste-related numbers in media which are unfounded, to prevent rationalization and shifting of polling stations .
