Pwd: Pwd Starts Repair Of Ot For Eye Ops At Gangori Hospital | Jaipur News

Jaipur: A day after TOI highlighted the laxity of the Public Works Department (PWD) in repairing the roof of an ophthalmology operation theatre (OT) at the government-run Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, a team of PWD workers reached the hospital and started repair work on Friday.
Heavy rains on Friday, however, forced the repair work to halt midway, and officials said the rains may delay completion of the work by some time. Even the repaired works in some places were damaged by evening.
For the past 11 days, the eye OT at the hospital, popularly known as Gangori Hospital, had remained closed due to seepage as the hospital waited for PWD to start the repair work.
The walls of the OT bore marks of rainwater leaking from the roof. The hospital had been waiting for PWD workers to start the repair work at the OT for the past 11 days.
“A PWD team has inspected the part of the hospital that is witnessing seepage. They have started repair work on the damaged part,” said Dr Leeneshwar Harshvardhan, medical superintendent of the hospital.
The hospital administration is hopeful that the seepage will be stopped in a day or two after the PWD team completes the work.
Since the ophthalmology OT has remained closed for the past 11 days, no surgeries are taking place there. The patients are waiting for the OT to open. More than 100 surgeries had to be postponed or rescheduled due to the 11-day closure of the OT.
Hospital sources said even after the repair work is completed, it will take at least three to five days for the OT to open for surgeries. The hospital will take samples from various parts of the OT for culture tests to ensure the place is free from harmful bacteria and safe for surgeries.
“We do culture test of OTs on regular basis to ensure that safety of the patients,” said Dr Harshvardhan.
