Jaipur: Stakeholders are complaining of a setback to their business since the forest department has started closing safari zones over two days each week in the Ranthambore National Park (RNP). According to the revised regulations, zones 1 to 5 of the park are off-limits on Tuesdays, and zones 6 to 10 on Wednesdays. Many have raised concerns about the feasibility of this policy, which has already led to numerous booking cancellations.
Booking agents say that international tourists who made advance bookings are finding it unfair and inconvenient to have their schedules changed. They say that many tourists, including a substantial number of foreign visitors, routinely book multiple safaris, often spanning two to three days. During the peak season, when tourists plan their visits to avoid crowds, weekdays are the preferred choice.
Amit Sharma, who operates a booking agency called Rajasthan Routes, said, “After the forest department implemented, all of a sudden, the weekly closure on Wednesdays in May, agents faced difficulty in rescheduling the tours of many international tourists. The decision to close the park for two days now is causing further frustration, and it risks damaging RNP’s reputation.”

Two Ktaka tourists robbed at Calangute

Wine tourism in Nashik has benefited nearby villages, creating new opportunities and improving the state GDP by nearly 20%. Maharashtra has the largest installed capacity for the production of alcoholic spirits and has around 90% of liquor manufacturers in the country. The alcoholic beverage industry contributes significantly to the economy, tourism, and employment in Maharashtra. The overall nationwide alcoholic beverage tax collection for FY2021 was INR 2.4 lakh crore.
