Quality Of Life: Crash Snatches 8 Organs, But Raj Trader Soldiers On | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: If there is a will, there is a way, even without eight vital organs. A 35-year-old Kota trader has been doing just that since a 2005 accident left him without a portion of his stomach, one of his kidneys, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct, duodenum and jejunum.
Now married and a father of three, Trilok Lodha recently celebrated his 35th birthday. On that occasion, Trilok called Sundeep Jain, his doctor who has seen him since the accident and through these tough years, and informed him about his well-being.
Trilok never forgets this ritual, nor his long list of precautions and medicines. Trilok has a lot to thank Jain for — most of all for his near-normal life since the 2005 accident while on a holiday when he was barely 17. “It was an unusual and challenging operation. I operated when the patient was bleeding and had low blood pressure (and had to be supported by drugs). Also, the inferior vena cava (key vein to the heart) was badly damaged. It was repaired with the help of a cardiac surgeon,” said Jain, recalling the day Trilok was wheeled in after the crash.
Jain is the head of gastrointestinal surgery at a private hospital. “One can survive with one functional kidney. But it is very challenging to live after total pancreatectomy (removal of pancreas). After its removal, one has to depend on insulin injections for sugar control. Such patients have episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels), which can be life-threatening,” said Jain.
Trilok, though, feels blessed and incredibly fortunate to have got a second life after the near-fatal crash.
“I was travelling from Jhalawar in an SUV and it collided with a truck. But my life has changed so much now. I take pancreatitis and digestive enzymes daily to control my blood sugar levels and help digestion,” Trilok said.
