Quality Of Life: Engrs On Poll Duty, Residents In City Areas Face Water Woes | Jaipur News

Jaipur: With engineers of the public health and engineering department (PHED) got involved in the nomination filing process of the Assembly election, daily water supply at a few areas in Jaipur are getting affected.
The department is trying to fix up the problem by bringing in engineers from other areas. But again, it is difficult to bring in replacements as most circle offices of the department are already working with skeletal manpower.
“A few of our engineers, mostly in the ranks of junior engineer (JE) and assistant engineer (AEN), had been appointed as the returning officers for filing nominations. At present we are undergoing a training regime and can attend our primary offices only when time permits. From Monday till November 6, it would be difficult to carry out any PHED related jobs,” said a AEN of PHED.
Under such circumstances, residents in a few colonies in the city – especially in the Jhotwara, Brahmapuri and in the Walled City area – are facing problems with their regular water supply.
Residents claimed, problems like non-supply of water or low pressure of water are perennial in their localities. But, at present, even after getting in touch with the local PHED officials their problems are not getting addressed properly.
“We had issued with non-supply of water in our colony in the last three days. We have not found any alternate solution till Saturday morning. Officials claimed, there are shortage of engineers and promised us to send a tanker on Sunday morning,” said Radheshyam Sharma, a resident of the Bandhgate locality.
PHED officials claimed they don’t have any ‘full proof’ solution to this problem. They claimed, in every election such situation takes places where engineers are being called for election duties and they cannot find replacements because the entire department is working with skeletal strength.
“The only solace is that such problems are temporary. If one of our engineers from Bani Park circle has joined duty for nomination filing duties, another engineer from Brahmapuri circle may join duty on poll days and another from Jhotwara on counting days. These engineers would be away from office for two to three days maximum at a stretch. Others in the office try to compensate. But, frankly speaking, it cannot solve the entire crisis,” said a senior PHED official, who did not want to be quoted.
