Samsung Semiconductor India Research and Indian Institute of Science partner on quantum technologies
Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has partnered with The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish a Quantum Technology Lab. The lab aims to provide research and training opportunities for faculty members and students in the fields of physics, engineering, computer science, and mathematics. Led by Prof Mayank Shrivastava, the lab will focus on advanced quantum technologies and indigenous development. It will also support interdisciplinary research, industry collaborations, and knowledge exchange. The lab’s goal is to push the boundaries of knowledge and contribute to India’s research innovations on the global stage.
Explained: What is quantum physics and how does it work?
Quantum physics, also known as quantum mechanics, deals with the behavior of particles at a very small scale. It introduces new rules and challenges our classical understanding of the universe. In the quantum world, particles exhibit properties like superposition and entanglement, defying our classical intuition. Quantum mechanics has led to groundbreaking technologies such as quantum computers and cryptography. Despite its puzzling aspects, quantum physics continues to push the boundaries of our understanding, offering the potential for new frontiers in science and technology.
