Jaipur: One of the successful stories of this year’s IPL is definitely Ajinkya Rahane. The discarded Indian team batter forced his way into the Test side with a series of outstanding performances this season.
The world has seen a completely different Rahane as he helped Chennai Super Kings reach the top of the points table. The entire CSK family including Dwayne Bravo is delighted to see that Rahane has earned his place in the national squad for the forthcoming World Test Championships against Australia at The Oval.
“We all are very happy with Rahane’s selection in the Indian Test team. For me, he is one of the best local players to play in the IPL. He has proved his credentials once again to regain his spot in the national team. I have always been a very big fan of Rahane. He has done well in earlier IPLs also while playing with various teams including RR. Now he is proving his worth for the CSK,” said Bravo while speaking to the media on the eve of the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Wednesday.
On the attacking approach of Rahane which he adapted this season, Bravo said CSK management always believed in giving full freedom to their players.
“The CSK team management always backs and encourages every player and Rahane was no different. He has changed his approach and worked very hard on his batting. He wanted to answer the critics with his bat and he is doing just that. The result of Rahane is the combination of his changed mindset and guidance of Dhoni as a leader. I am sure he will continue to do well for CSK as well as for the Indian Test side in the future,” said Bravo.
The Trinidadian is expecting a tough game against RR on Thursday. At the halfway stage of the competition, CSK is leading with 10 points, while RR has slipped to the third place with eight points.
“Royals is a very good team and has been performing well this season too. It is always a big challenge to come here and play against a quality team like RR. It will be a big feast for the fans tomorrow as there will be a very high-quality game on display tomorrow. Our morale is quite high after three successive victories and we want to keep the momentum going,” said Bravo, who has played a big role as a player for CSK.
The 39-year-old former all-rounder defended Dhoni batting lower down the order. “Dhoni still believes in his finishing role. There is a packed batting order we have this year with everyone playing well at their respective positions. Dhoni believes in giving ample chances to youngsters like Jadeja, Ruturaj, Shivam Dube and other youngsters in the side. That was the reason he keeps himself lower down the order and bats only when it is required the most,” said Bravo.
He praised the bowling unit of CSK saying it has been doing a brilliant job to check the opponents. “I must say our bowlers have been doing a fantastic job. One of the young fast bowlers Akash Singh has been excelling with the new ball. Dhoni wants to encourage this young left-arm pacer as he is showing a lot of promise,” said Bravo.
