Rains wash away monsoon deficit, Rajasthan farmers celebrate | Jaipur News

TOI on Thursday spoke to authorities of Jaipur Met office to know the exact figures.
“The average monsoon rainfall in Rajasthan is 512.96 mm. However till Thursday this year, the state has received an average rainfall of 549.94mm, which is nearly 7.2% higher compared to the average,” said an officer with Jaipur Met office.

While it was expected that southwest monsoon would withdraw from September 16, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi announced an extension till September 27. “This became a gamechanger as earlier almost 9 districts were in the category of deficit rainfall. Now only Sirohi and Sriganganagar districts are left with a deficit tag. These two districts too will get some rainfall and will come in the category of normal rainfall,” said weathermen. As far as Jaipur is concerned, it received 553.43mm of rains till Thursday against a normal average rainfall of 495.10mm. “It means the city has received almost 11 % higher rainfall compared to last year,” a Met official said.
Sriganganagar has received merely 114.42mm, which is 42.8% compared to its normal. Meanwhile, several areas in Banswara and Dungarpur were inundated due to the opening of gates of Mahi dam (Banswara). In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said heavy to moderate rainfall will take place at Kota, Udaipur and Jaipur divisions, while light rainfall will take place in Jodhpur division in the next couple of days
