Rainwater Harvesting: Rainwater Harvesting Bears Mixed Impact Due To Monsoon | Jaipur News

“Unlike dams, we use smaller tanks in case of rainwater harvesting. So, it’s quite natural that if we have heavy rainfall on a particular day the water gets wasted. It has happened this year at many places across the state,” said an official working with the agriculture department.
However, officials stated that there are districts like Pali and Chittor where rainfall had been consistent. Here, the water level of tanks and ponds meant for rainwater harvesting are holding a huge amount of water.
“This is because there was a balance in the usage and refill of water due to rainfall. Rainfall in these districts had been consistent and hence the balance has been maintained throughout the monsoon till now,” added another official.
Officials of the Watershed Department – that carries out the bulk of rainwater harvesting in the state – had stated that the effect of this year’s rainfall can be analysed only in September. They claimed that consistent rainfall is the key for rainwater harvesting.
“So far, so good. But it depends how consistent the rainfall will be in the next two months. We can analyse the advantage or disadvantage of this year’s rainfall only during September-end,” said Sushila Yadav, joint director of the Watershed and Soil Conservation Department of Rajasthan.
