Raj Covid Toll On The Rise; 53 Die In 37 Days | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The Covid toll has risen to 53 since April 1, which has become a cause of concern. However, health authorities have pointed out that the deaths are not directly linked to Covid-19 but those who died also suffered from comorbid conditions.
Till March 31, the state had reported 9,661 Covid-19 deaths, which have now increased to 9,714 in 37 days. On January 1, Covid-19 deaths in the state were 9,653. From January 1 to March 31, the state had reported only eight Covid-19 deaths, but in the next 37 days, 53 deaths took place, indicating that the fatalities due to Covid-19 have increased with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
The current spike is driven by XBB.1.16, an Omicron subvariant in the state. Doctors have emphasized that XBB.1.16 is not directly responsible for causing serious illness but in immunocompromised or persons with comorbidities and elderlies it can cause serious complications. They found that the XBB.1.16 does not infect lungs, but it affects the upper respiratory tract.
The weekly positivity rate in the districts has reduced significantly over the past few days. From April 29 to May 5, the state had only five districts which had weekly positivity rates above 5%: Barmer, Jaisalmer, Ajmer, Pratapgarh and Jodhpur. While in Jaipur, Bikaner, Sikar, Pali and Rajsamand, the weekly positivity rate remained in the bracket of 5% to 10%.
