Pokhran: Pokhran Nuclear Tests Complete 25yrs In May | Jaipur News

JAISALMER: May 11 will mark 25 years of series of nuclear tests that were conducted in Pokhran in 1998. Looking at the forthcoming assembly elections, BJP is preparing to take mileage of the Pokhran nuclear tests. There is a possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Pokhran on the occasion.
A team of scientists under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had conducted five nuclear tests on May 11 and 13 in 1998. The local BJP organisation has indicated that Modi might visit Pokhran in the second week of May. According to sources PM’s proposed visit to Pokhran will also include assembly constituency seats of western Rajasthan including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jalore and Sirohi.
Modi had visited Jaisalmer during 2013 assembly elections where he had announced the he would be contesting for the post of PM. During that assembly polls Congress had suffered huge losses in western Rajasthan while BJP won almost all the seats. This is also likely another reason that a huge public meeting is being proposed in Pokhran.
