ALWAR/JAIPUR: Govindgarh police in Alwar questioned former BJP MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja on Monday in connection to the FIR lodged against him after he was caught on a tape his supporters had so far “lynched five people” of a community. He was questioned for more than two hours by the investigating officer of the case, two days after a case was registered against him for allegedly promoting hatred and enmity.
Govindgarh SHO Shiv Shankar said the case was registered on the basis of the video which surfaced after he visited the family of 45-year-old Chiranjilal Saini, who was allegedly beaten to death by members of Meo community on suspicion of tractor theft on Friday last.
“He was questioned for almost two hours and he has assured that whenever he would be sought for questioning, he will appear,” Alwar SP Tejaswini Gautam said.
Ahuja came to Govindgarh police station at 1pm and was questioned till 3pm.
According to sources, nearly 57 questions were asked by Kamal Ram Meena, Ramgarh DSP, who is investigating the case.
When contacted, Ahuja said, “Yes, I had gone after police called me for the questioning. In the section I have been booked, the maximum imprisonment is of five years, thus they should serve me notice of appearance and I will go for their questioning, whenever required.”
The SP added that Supreme Court had ruled that arrest should be the exception in cases in which the punishment for the crime is less than seven years. In lieu of arrest in such cases, the accused should be served a notice for appearance under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). “He needs to appear before the investigating officer whenever required,” she added.
