Dausa: 3 Haryana residents arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa for cattle smuggling | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Three residents of Haryana were arrested in Dausa district on charge of smuggling cattle on Saturday. In their effort to escape, the trio fired at a police team pursuing them, causing an exchange of gunfire and a leg injury to one of them, said police.
Four cows were rescued from a mini-truck in which the three accused – Sadiq Meo, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Raees – were travelling, said an officer. They are all residents of Phoolwali Masjid area of Mohalla Islamabadi in Palwal, Haryana. During the shootout, which occurred near Nangal Bersi Road under Sadar police station, Sadiq Meo sustained a gunshot wound in his leg and was admitted to a hospital in Dausa.
“After a six-hour-long operation, four cows were rescued. The cow smugglers were identified and arrested. Cases pertaining to cow smuggling have been registered against them,” said a senior police officer in Dausa.
While patrolling on Jaipur-Agra highway at around 12pm on Friday, police signalled an approaching mini-truck to stop, said an officer. “The vehicle did not stop and sped away, prompting the police to give it a chase. Occupants of the mini-truck abruptly stopped the vehicle at Barkheda village, jumped out of it and fled into the fields. At night, the police team pursued the miscreants but could not locate them,” he added.
Police cordoned off the area on Saturday morning and called in the rapid response team. “On seeing the police, the miscreants started firing, and the police retaliated. A cow smuggler received a bullet in his leg. He and two others, who sustained minor injuries due to falling in the fields, were apprehended,” the officer said.
