Rajasthan government’s SOS to IndiGO: Operate a special flight to bring Rajasthanis stranded in Manipur | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government is in talks with a private airline – IndiGO – to bring back the Rajasthanis stranded in violence-hit Manipur.
According to estimates, there are around 100-125 Rajasthanis, the majority of students in them, who are currently stranded in Imphal and other areas.
“Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed concern and the state government is committed to ensure the safety of its citizens in the conflict zone. The chief secretary Usha Sharma and I had personally spoken to IndiGO to operate a flight to Jaipur to bring the Rajasthanis back,” Dhiraj Srivastava, the Resident Commissioner (Bikaner House) at New Delhi & the Commissioner of the Rajasthan Foundation, told TOI, adding, “If a special flight to Jaipur is not possible, at least IndiGo should fly them to Guwahati or to Kolkata”.
For the last few days, ethnic violence has engulfed Manipur. More than 50 people were killed in the violence. Although unofficial sources have placed the death toll at over a hundred and the number of injured at nearly 200.
Meanwhile, the Bikaner House Resident Commissioner’s Office in New Delhi in coordination with the Rajasthan Foundation has launched helpline numbers for those in need of any assistance or information.
The state government has also requested the stranded Rajasthanis to remain confined to safe houses and not to panic as “the current situation on the ground in Manipur is not conducive.”
“The Resident Commissioner’s office is collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs and local authorities to offer support and make necessary arrangements for the stranded Rajasthanis,” a press release issued by the government stated.
Those who require assistance can contact the helpline numbers at 0141-2229111, 011-23070807 and +91-83060 09838.
The helpline numbers launched by the Rajasthan government are with the purpose to provide aid and support to Rajasthani citizens during this crisis. The state government had previously provided emergency helpline numbers for NRRs affected by natural disasters like earthquakes in Turkey, Syria and during the recent war in Sudan.
