Rajasthan HC quashes charges against ex-minister Devi Singh Bhat after 25 years | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The Jaipur metropolitan court II has ended all criminal proceedings against former minister Devi Singh Bhati in the case of an official being beaten up in his chamber about 25 years back.
During a hearing in the ADJ court, Bhati’s advocate Vipul Sharma informed about the order of Rajasthan High Court. Presenting the copy of the HC order, he requested quashing of all the proceedings. On a petition from Bhati, the HC had quashed all the proceedings of the case registered in Ashok Nagar police station in 1997.
Justice Birender Kumar had observed that there has been a delay in the investigation and thereby the right of the petitioner for a fair trial has been infringed. In such a situation, continuing with criminal proceedings against the petitioner would be an abuse of the process of law.
Bhati was accused of assaulting IAS officer PK Deb for blacklisting a contract firm. Deb had filed a police case on December 6, 1997, and CID-CB was probing it.
