Rajasthan: Heavy rains lash Kota division, brace for more | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Heavy rainfall in Kota division since Thursday has badly hit normal life in Kota, Jhalawar and Bundi districts. Road connectivity between Kota and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh remained disconnected for the second consecutive day on Friday, and many villages witnessed waterlogging.
Eight gates of Kota barrage were opened by the water resources department at 8 AM on Friday as the division and areas in adjoining Madhya Pradesh received constant rainfall. An alert was sounded in the downstream villages after the water was released. Three of the eight gates were shut at 7 PM, said a barrage official.
Heavy rainfall across Kota division since Thursday also led to a swelling of the water level in Gandhi Sagar dam. Over 58,000 cusecs of water have been released so far, said officials.
Jhalawar district also received heavy rainfall. Local road connectivity between villages was disconnected. Aklera (Jhalawar) received a rainfall of 130 mm on Friday, the highest in the state, followed by Mandna (Kota, 120 mm), Bhinsrogarh (Chittorgarh, 110 mm), Bijoliya (Bhilwara, 100 mm) and Manohar Thana (Jhalawar, 80 mm) mm.
Rainfall varying between 10 mm and 70 mm was received at several places in the state.
In Jaipur, cloudy conditions prevailed in the morning, and moderate to heavy rainfall was witnessed in the evening. Many areas including Malviya Nagar, Tonk Phatak, Jawahar Nagar, Aadarsh Nagar and Raja Park witnessed showers in the evening.
In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said heavy rainfall would take place in some parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions while mild to moderate showers would continue in the rest of the state in the next 24 hours.
