Rajasthan identifies 650 schools to be revamped under PM SHRI | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The education department has identified 650 schools across the state to be upgraded to PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) and sent a proposal to the central government, said officials on Friday. Officials said that there will be infrastructure upgradation in these schools as mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) and the new curriculum being developed under the policy will be followed there. These schools will be like model schools for NEP in the state.
“Across the country schools are being identified that follow the norms of infrastructure as mentioned in the NEP or have the potential to be upgraded. For that, in Rajasthan 650 schools have been identified so far covering 92% of the state and a proposal has been sent to the central government for approval. This is being done in a phase-wise manner but Rajasthan has identified maximum schools in phase 1 itself and we feel that all the schools are likely to get approved for upgradation,” said ML Yadav, state project director, Samgra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Officials said that there will be two such schools in every block and so far, schools have been identified from over 240 blocks of Rajasthan. The schools can apply for the scheme through an online portal after which a physical verification is done before a final proposal is sent to the central government.
The PM SHRI is a new scheme for the development of over 14,500 schools across the country, by strengthening selected existing schools being managed by central government or state governments or union territories government or local bodies. These schools will act as exemplar schools showcasing all components of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and offer mentorship to other schools in the area.
The scheme was launched in September 2022 with the aim of delivering quality teaching for the cognitive development of students and to create and nurture holistic and well-rounded individuals equipped with key skills required for the 21st century. All these schools will be developed as green schools following sustainable practices. At these schools, the focus will be on improving foundational literacy and numeracy and learning outcomes in children.
