Rajasthan: Kirori Lal Meena’s Pulwama politics finally gets BJP backing | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Rajasthan BJP, which had distanced itself from Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena’s campaign in support of the demand of the three Pulwama martyrs’ widows, came to his rescue following his admission to SMS Hospital on Friday.
Meena, who is known for taking up issues without taking his party into confidence, faced ‘no response’ from BJP leaders after CM Ashok Gehlot released a factual report about the demands of the martyrs’ widows being already met by the state.
BJP state president Satish Poonia and party state in-charge Arun Singh, who were silent for the past four days, reached the hospital to meet Meena.
Meena’s independent style of politics of keeping his cards close to his chest until the last moment has made the party brass uncomfortable several times. BJP leaders were in complete dark the way Meena swamped to the main gate of the state assembly with the widows while his party MLAs were taking on the government on other issues inside the assembly.
“Meena’s call to visit the CMR on March 4 with the widows on the day Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) called its protest against the paper leaks in Jaipur involving all nine frontal organizations was also seen in distaste by many party leaders. The visit snowballed into a big issue dividing the attention of the people and media which was already halved with the birthday celebrations of former CM Raje,” said a senior BJP leader.
Meena’s march with thousands of youths to Jaipur from Dausa on January 25 against the paper leak came at a time when BJP was planning a major protest. He sat at Ghat Ki Ghuni with supporters forcing the BJP leaders to make a beeline and extend support to him.
Meena had released a statement expressing his disappointment over the party leaders not living up to their word of providing him support. “Meena’s repeated independent actions indicate that he will never compromise with his image of a revolutionary. His dedicated team of supporters which runs in thousands in areas like Dausa and Sawai Madhopur works irrespective of his position in the party is his biggest strength,” said a party leader.
