Rajasthan reports 304 Covid deaths in January, active cases plunge | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Twenty-three persons died of Covid in the last 24 hours in the state bringing the January toll to 304 with a mortality rate as low as 0.12%. The overall toll from March 2020 till date stands at 9,268.

Eight deaths were reported from Jaipur on Monday, three from Pali, two each from Sikar, Jodhpur and one death each was reported from Ajmer, Bundi, Churu,Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Nagaur and Tonk.
In five days, the active cases have reduced from 94,148 to 67,017. The state has also witnessed 11,618 persons recovered from the virus, which was more than the 6,369 new Covid cases reported in 24 hours.
Despite active cases decreasing for the past five days, more than 20 deaths are being recorded in the state. For the 8th straight day, the state witnessed more than 20 Covid deaths daily. The state reported 173 deaths in eight days, which was 56 per cent of deaths that happened in January. It shows that the majority of January’s deaths happened in the last eight days of the month.
With omicron spreading at a fast pace in the state in January, the health department has also intensified its surveillance by conducting more sampling for Covid test. In January, more than double samples were collected compared to the samples collected in December.
Health department officials said that more than 17 lakh samples were collected in January whereas in December, over 9 lakh samples were collected.
The state reported 6,369 new Covid cases in 24 hours bringing its overall tally to 12,06,421. The active cases in the state decreased from 72,289 to 67017. Meanwhile, Jaipur reported 1,578 Covid cases. The active cases in Jaipur have decreased from 18,832 to 16,739 in a day.
