rajasthan: Water disputes claim more lives in Rajasthan than robberies | Jaipur News
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data has revealed an insightful survey of motives behind murder cases in the state. Family disputes emerged as the foremost reasons behind murders in the state, other motives behind murders were over properties and land disputes.
Besides family and property disputes, the state also recorded 67 cases of dowry deaths, 66 due to love affairs, and 42 due to illicit relationships. In fact, in only 44 cases the cause of murder was either unknown or no clue could be discovered.
The data has also pointed out that murders have been rising in Rajasthan for three years running. The state recorded a total of 1,719 murders last year, compared to 1,659 in 2019 and 1,508 in 2018.
Rajasthan was sixth in the NCRB’s list of murder cases in the country. The sharp increase in 2020 remains uncertain because the state had gone into a lockdown in the early months of the last year and curbs lasted for several months including night curfews.
An official claimed that in some cases Section 302 (murder) of the IPC was filed several days later after deaths. “There have been cases wherein family members filed a case either directly or through court complaint, alleging that the death of their kind was a murder case,” the official said, adding that Rajasthan police did not suppress any complaint.
