Jaipur: Education minister BD Kalla on Thursday said in the Assembly that a committee has been constituted to study the possibility of declaring the Rajasthani language as the second official language of Rajasthan on the lines of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand models.
The minister was replying to a calling of attention motion brought during Zero Hour by deputy leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore regarding making Rajasthani language the official language of the state and adding it to Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) as a third language.
Kalla said Rajasthani language is presently included as a literary subject in the syllabus under RBSE and that it would be possible to include it as a third language after approval from the competent level.
The minister said that a resolution was unanimously passed by all the members of the state Assembly on August 25, 2003, in favour of the inclusion of Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The central government has been urged from time to time to include the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, he said. Requests have been made to the central government by the chief ministers of Rajasthan in 2009, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2023, he added.
Kalla informed the matter is presently under consideration at the level of the central government.
