Ranji Trophy: Raj Drawn With 3 Former Champs In Ranji Trophy | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Rajasthan have been drawn with the defending champions Saurashtra and former winners Vidarbha, Haryana and Maharashtra in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy.
The BCCI announced its full-fledged annual domestic calendar after a gap of nearly three years due to the pandemic. In the last couple of years, the Indian cricket board held a truncated domestic season due to various restrictions.
However, the domestic season will return to its pre-covid days much to the delight of the entire cricketing fraternity.
The all-important Ranji Trophy will be played early next year. The leading 32 teams have been divided equally in four Elite groups, while one Plate group will consist of six teams. Rajasthan are in Elite A group which also comprises Saurashtra, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Haryana, Services and Manipur. Half of the teams have won the prestigious Ranji Trophy in the past.
Each team will play against each other once and only the top two sides will make the grade for the knockouts. Ranji league matches will be held from January 5, 2024, to February 19, while the knock-outs will be played from February 23 to March 14. Group’s top two teams from the points table will make it to the quarterfinals.
Rajasthan will have to give their best to reach the knock-out stage of the competition after missing the qualification last year. The group is relatively tough. Besides Saurashtra, Maharashtra, Haryana and Vidarbha can also challenge Rajasthan team. Saurashtra beat Bengal by nine wickets to clinch their second Ranji Trophy 2022-23 title at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 20, 2023.
The season will commence with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The T20 tournament will kick-off on October 16. Matches of one of the five groups will be held in Jaipur.
